2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Review

Few car manufacturers can pull off the particular blend of stylishness and ruggedness that Land Rover convey with their models. The newly redesigned Discovery Sport carries with it the best of the traditional Land Rover with a healthy mix of style. Think Bear Grylls in a Tuxedo and you’re not far off. There’s a strength and a practicality to this capable car but you won’t be embarrassed parking it outside the school gates come the kids’ hometime.

With the Discovery Sport you’ll find a classically styled interior. Clean lines, minimal frills, good quality materials. Everything feels sturdy and pleasant to the touch. The infotainment system has good, sharp graphics, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are available but it comes with its own built-in navigation as well. All Discovery Sports come with dual zone climate control which is easy to control with physical dials, as opposed to the less-than responsive touch controls in some competitors’ cabins.

Alongside a stylish interior, the Discovery Sport has well-thought out storage. Dotted around the cabin are plentiful cubby holes and clever compartments that offer flexibility. You can remove the central cupholders if you want to store a large handbag in the centre for example.

Performance will of course depend on your engine choice, but you could be looking at accelerations of 0-62 in a nippy 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 225 km/h.

Don’t let the size of the Discovery Sport lull you into thinking it will cost the earth to keep on the road. Its combined fuel economy places it neatly into the middle of its segment, running at around 53 mpg, with CO2 emissions as low as 140 g/km.

The Discovery Sport may be the SUV of choice for many an urbane urbanite, but it's able to handle itself out in the wilds as well. At heart, the Discovery Sport was built to handle rough terrain but maintain its suave composure whilst doing so.
